| Maybe this isn't something you usually go for, but I really like Abstract Art. What's abstract? Anything non-representational. Not a picture of something in the real world. Not a person, animal, plant, object, building, landscape, or sky. Examples: curving or geometric shapes, scribbles, letters, text blocks, numbers, handwriting, graphs, bits cut out of images, combos of the above. It's OK if a bit of real-world stuff is on your postcard, but make sure at least 80% is abstract or looks abstract. Reflections on water or shiny objects, wrinkled cloth of a garment, parts of furry/hairy/scaly things, shaded part of a person's face, veins of a leaf, surface of a wall, part of a cloud... are all things that look abstract. If you've haven't made an abstract postcard before, think of this as a chance to stretch your wings. Use any media or mix of media: drawing, paint, collage, rubber stamps, etc. I personally like 6" x 9" postcards 'cause they give you plenty of room to work with & take first-class postage (like a Forever stamp). But any size from 4" x 6" up is fine. Send it naked. Either write a note or make more art on the back, but make sure you include your SB handle & name of the swap. Have fun! π | |
