Description:

Ladies and Gentlemen of Amberleigh,

It is with the greatest of pleasure that on behalf of our most esteemed Lady Elizabeth & Lady Caroline, we proudly announce Amberleigh’s Sixth Annual Garden Fete.

The situation shall be once again, on the west lawns near the parkland at Comely Park, surrounded by chestnut and hazel trees which shall be hung with colourful bunting between them. In the centre of the Green, will be the White Marquis, where aromas of hot & cold refreshments will be served in fine china. A long side table shall provide sumptuous deserts, cakes, soups, pies, sandwiches & savouries. At the front we may all enjoy lilting melodies from the Bexford Woodwind Quintet.

Surrounding the marquis will be green & yellow tents that shall house all your creative entries on display for the judging competitions where you may catch a glimpse of our fair hostesses. We would welcome as many entries as you would like to make.

There shall be hay bales for seating set in between locations where you can hear our local Apple Scrumpy Band, whilst eating a hot chop or buttered baked potato sipping on an ale or cider all from the Rose & Crown Inn's red striped tent, Mrs Wallis will see you well taken care of, she has some delicious fare in this tent, follow the irresistible aromas. Under the bunting surrounds will be vendors with bric a brac, homewares & produce for sale, & just opposite you will find Musical displays of clog dancing, The Mummers shall chorus with songs of yore, enjoy the Morris Dancing with their bells & sticks & whistles and brightly coloured green, red and yellow ribbons, and hear Mr Beckett Blackburn's poetry and Mr. Clutterback with Shakespeare's Sonnets. To liven things a little more, The Penn Brothers Four, shall put forth a swordsmanship tournament & welcome young and old to try their artful luck in practice; and for the little masters and misses, a beribboned May Pole, the puppet show, Punch & Judy, with the tombola, coconut shie, and other games, for everyone to enjoy.

I have posted a scroll on the notice board on the village green for the varied competition sections. May you all feel at home in participating in “A Friendly Competition Amongst Our Neighbours”.

Your humble Servant,

Master of Ceremonies

Launcelot W. Penn Esq.
